The trouble with being so understanding is that you see others living their lives and experiencing love, while you are left heartbroken and lonely. Imagine a scenario when the boy leaves the girl for someone else.. but because they both 'loved' the friendship so much, decides to take their hearts off and put it in the trash and make-believe that friendship could really last. Then, the boy talks about his present love, while the girl silently hurts and forces herself to smile and be happy that the boy had finally found someone whom he loves so much. Yeah, I know, the girl is too naive and stupid to let go.. the boy is taking advantage and is somewhat 'happy' coz he gets both girls he wanted.
